Why did you choose the text you are analysing?
Because it’s an obvious example of an illustration music video and I want all my songs analysis to be different types of music. It is also the kind of music I like.
In what context did you encounter it?
When Father Cartwright shown the music to me a couple of years ago and I had an interest in it, and then decided to download the album onto my iPod.
What influence do you think this context might have had on your interpretation of the text?
Well I thought it made us see that we can do any video we want if we try hard enough. It also made us see that you don’t have to do something really complicated to get a good grade; you can make it short and simple.
Which conventions of the genre do you recognize in the text?
Illustration because they are doing a performance at a concert with a big audience.
To what extent does this text stretch the conventions of its genre?
It doesn’t stretch the genre at all because it’s just a simple illustration performance and fits into the genre quite nicely.
Where and why does the text depart from the conventions of the genre?
It doesn’t depart from the convention of genre.
What sort of audience did you feel that the video was aimed at (and how typical was this of the genre/style of music)?
The type of audience I think it hits is a mix between punk and rock and of course people that are fans on The Ramones music. However they do a lot of different pace of music and that could apple to most people.
What sort of person does it assume you are?
Well I imagine it assumes you are a person that likes to hear and watch The Ramones perform.
What responses does the video seem to expect from you?
I would think that it would want you to watch and listen to their music but that only if you like the music.
How open to negotiation is your response (are you invited, instructed or coerced to respond in particular ways)?
I guess that it makes you wanting to listen which is a way of feeling invited. But other than that its just a music video so I cant see why you would get that much feelings off of it.
Is there any penalty for not responding in the expected ways?
Not really because if you get bored by the video then you wont react the right way as a person who like the video. But you can’t get that bored of the video because it’s only 1minutes 30seconds long.
How typical do you think this video is of music videos?
As some music videos go this can be quite typical but its just a performance but others have a proper video for their music video.
