Genre Characteristics
Well the genre of this music video is rap; you can tell this just by the clothes that they are wearing.
The whole video.
Relationship Between Lyrics and Visual
Some lyrics of the song show up on the music video, which I think help you understand the lyrics. And when they act out the word with a cartoon is something that hasn’t been done a lot.
Most of the video.

Amplification, where the video has some relevance to the video but is still a bit strange.
The video.

Why did you choose the text you are analysing?
Because I had to choose a music video that was Amplification and thought I would choose a song that I know and like. So I came up with Fast Lane.

In what context did you encounter it?
I was going through my iPod to try and find a good song with a good video, then came across it.
What influence do you think this context might have had on your interpretation of the text?
My influence was at first that this good song but after I watched it a couple of more times I thought it was a hard video to actually produce.
Which conventions of the genre do you recognize in the text?
I recognise the rap genre, not because I know that Eminem is a rapper but because of the clothes that they are wearing and even the beat of the song.

To what extent does this text stretch the conventions of its genre?
Personally I don’t think it does

Where and why does the text depart from the conventions of the genre?
Not really anywhere because the whole video is in the warehouse, so it can’t change the genre.
What sort of audience did you feel that the video was aimed at (and how typical was this of the genre/style of music)?
The music was aimed at people that like Eminem music or any rap music but the video is a good one anyway and worth seeing even if you don’t like the music.
What sort of person does it assume you are?
Well if I am watching the video and listening to the music I guess it assumes I’m the kind of person that like rap music (and I do).
What responses does the video seem to expect from you?
Well it would expect a joyful response from the video and the music because I like this kind of music that he does.
How open to negotiation is your response (are you invited, instructed or coerced to respond in particular ways)?
Is there any penalty for not responding in the expected ways?
It really depends if you like the video or the music, because if you do then your going to react entertained but if you don’t you might turn the video off half way though and bored of it.
How typical do you think this video is of music videos?
It’s very typical because they are syncing the words to the music and as music videos go it’s the most obvious one to do. However adding all cartoon animation to it makes it more of an unusual video.
